I have done few lable customization to manage my emails better. Just wanted to share how i did it. It will be helpful for some of you.
You can create separate labels according to yourself. for example bills, which can be used to separate my bill emails from other mails. So that, i can pay my bills before my due date properly.
1.Go to settings on top right corner and click on the label tab
2.Scroll down and you can find create label option
3.click on the create new label and type your label name
4.Once its created, you can see it on the sidebar. you can change the color of label, as showed on image.
5.You can also create label using the following way from your sidebar. If you can't find it,please follow the above way.

5.Now let's create a filter. just go to the searbox on top and click on the down arrow at right end before search button.
You can create filter according to your wish. now click on the create filter with this search on the bottom.
Now this are all the operations you can perform, i am just applying the label for the filter with bill and click create filter. you are done.
Final Result.
